He doesn't ask for a "straight" cigarette. He dies smoking a joint. His wife asks for one earlier in the film when the idea to take him out of the hospital to avoid going to jail is discussed.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8397258225529631690.post-12805913674387431352012-06-06T14:37:12.614-04:002012-06-06T14:37:12.614-04:00That guy's not messing up carving a swastika, ...That guy's not messing up carving a swastika, he's carving another Nazi emblem called a "wolf's angle"Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8397258225529631690.post-39410534775535057552011-07-30T15:27:52.160-04:002011-07-30T15:27:52.160-04:00http://www.myspace.com/davieallanandthearrows/phot...http://www.myspace.com/davieallanandthearrows/photos/29835178#%7B%22ImageId%22%3A29835178%7D
The Wild Angels:
Davie Allan:KING Of The FUZZ GUITAR.
Heavenly Blues:Peter "Hank" Fonda.
Mikey: Nancy "Boots" Sinatra.
Photo by David WinogrondAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8397258225529631690.post-30426274018806123662011-07-30T15:19:02.987-04:002011-07-30T15:19:02.987-04:00Davie Allan & The Arrows made that movie sound...Davie Allan & The Arrows made that movie sound great!
The FUZZ guitar is the action sound. That was the dark sound of it's day!
Davie signed away his royalties to get his name credit and they robbed him of that!
It had cost an estimated $362,000 to produce and $14,000,000 in showings in the USA alone by January of 198o and has earned over $200 million in film rentals!!!
Peter Fonda's cut was $10,000. Mike Curb excluded Davie Allan out of his royalties for decades on the hit "Blues Theme" and a lot of money was made but not by the ones who really shined so bright.Davie Allan continues to be a great guitarist and excells in melodic grunge guitar today. He also shares the same birthdate as Nancy Sinatra. This link shows Davie Allan & Nancy Sinatra & Peter Fonda together at a Harley Davidson event in Las Vegas.
http://a3.l3-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/48/568eb0845b
www.davieallan.com is Davie's website.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8397258225529631690.post-19287043132708902662011-06-25T12:19:15.619-04:002011-06-25T12:19:15.619-04:00TD:

And while I'm sure he did to some extent, I think he's, I dunno, "padding his resume" a little bit. I think there's a difference between filling in for the DP for a couple of days and claiming co-cinematography credit. (I love Bogdanovich's Targets and The Last Picture Show, but I'm also firmly in the camp that believes Polly Platt was a major influence on those movies, and looking at PB's post-Polly-breakup flicks, I think she deserves more credit than she gets.)Ivan of Ivanlandiahttp://ivanlandia1.blogspot.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8397258225529631690.post-54120418150812500272011-06-19T09:49:22.184-04:002011-06-19T09:49:22.184-04:00One of my very fave bike movies. Although it certainly established the drive-in biker movie, there were earlier celluloid gangs in THE WILD ONE, THESE ARE THE DAMNED, MOTOR PSYCHO, and even AIP's own BEACH PARTY. YOu pointed out what made it unique: a weird, existentialistic vibe that appealed both to film critics and rebel youth.Rick29https://www.blogger.com/profile/08358116647815569722noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8397258225529631690.post-48487597539810724782011-06-18T16:18:03.279-04:002011-06-18T16:18:03.279-04:00ClassicBecky: looking forward to it, and also to y...ClassicBecky: looking forward to it, and also to your sci-fi retrospective. Your point about Corman's movies being about beautiful losers feels exactly right. In a way, B-movies are all about the losers, the oddballs, and the outlaws, that's part of what makes them so fun. And I'll keep an eye out for that Bogdanovich interview about Fonda and the motorcycle.Aubynhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00446079492480611898noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8397258225529631690.post-8681475086902730552011-06-17T17:11:11.635-04:002011-06-17T17:11:11.635-04:00Well, Ivan, you sure do give a bumpy ride! But then, I've always been fond of movies like "The Wild Angels" -- you know, family-friendly, old-fashioned moral values, people coming together in love....the church scene was positively charming...

I haven't seen this one in years. My favorite Corman movies are the horror genre, but I remember watching The Wild Angels like a deer in the headlights -- I just couldn't stop watching! I wasn't supposed to be seeing it at all, since I was 13 and my parents had threatened dire consequences in that event. But of course, I managed to see it by fibbing (that's "lying" in teen-language). You can imagine the shock of it to a young, naive Catholic schoolgirl.

Your writing style and mine are worlds apart, but I had fun with this one! What a ride you just took me on.

When doing the movie posters for a Blogathon post I had to triple check that I read the film title correctly because it just didn't seem to fit with what I know of Corman's work. Your research was stellar and you left no stone unturned in laying out this review.

Often the backstory of a film is as interesting as the movie itself...this is one of them. When I think of Fonda on a hog, I like most think of Easy Rider so I want to correct that by finding this film and watching it immediately.

Thanks for the wild ride and a review that I will remember for quite some time.
Excellent!

PagePagehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15063277863578004836noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8397258225529631690.post-49633067860566483902011-06-17T07:18:55.114-04:002011-06-17T07:18:55.114-04:00Oh! And let me say...it has started this blogathon off with a BANG!

Incredible review! It's obvious that you are extremely passionate about this film, its director, and its subject. I love how you summarized the movie and then proceeded to deconstruct all of its parts.

Plus, I love the effects of using different colored words and font sizes to emphasize different points.

Reading your entry gave me the same sensation of actually WATCHING a B-movie!

I'm a little disappointed in myself, actually....I made it a goal to watch all of the movies that were going to be blogged about prior to reading their representative entries...and I mostly succeeded. But so help me....no matter how hard I looked I could NOT find a damned copy of this movie! And now I want to see it more than anything!

ARGH!!

Anyhow, once again, you've done a fantastic job. I want to personally thank you for participating in this blogathon and bringing attention to this great filmmaker.

Don't forget to vote for the Readers' Choice Award on Monday!Nathanael Hoodhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08959797971471060052noreply@blogger.com
