The Shining has always creeped me out because I've often felt the dynamics are too gosh-darn spot-on about a certain type of family very specific to the 1970s: those young rebels who were resistant to let go of those wild days, and that looming horror of family responsibility is glaring at those selfish bastards right in the face. And the chicks who hung out with them for too long weren't quite right in the head either.
